Balance isn’t about perfection—it’s about seeing the patterns that unbalance us and knowing the ways to move back towards equilibrium

Arm balances and inversions are liberating postures that build strength & balance while teaching us about playfulness, trust and skillful engagement to find stillness in motion. But the reality is arm balance postures and inversions can be intimidating and often people think they are out of their reach. The truth is arm balancing isn’t some magical skill. It’s a lot about physics and preparation and by applying a few key principles, most people are able to find an arm balance that is within their reach. And practicing arm balances is a lot of fun!

Learning to Fly-with the Yogi Flight method

In this fun, empowering 3-Week Series, Julia will show you exactly how to apply the key principles of the Yogi Flight Method to your practice so you can balance with more ease than ever before and fly with confidence.

We will begin with the fundamentals, highlighting the crucial steps needed to be successful in any arm balance and inversion posture. Then we’ll move right into a Vinyasa practice with sequences and conscious movement designed to engage key muscle groups and get your body doing the actions of the poses before taking it upside down into a balance pose. Once we are properly warmed up, it’s playtime! We will practice fundamental arm balance postures including Crow Pose, Side Crow (Funky Variation) & Koundinyasana A & B and inversions such as Tripod and Bound Headstand A. We’ll focus on reinforcing alignment, preparation and technique, while maintaining a sense of playfulness so that our effort and discipline is balanced with ease. Intermediate yogis may explore different entries, leg variations and transitions like Crow-Tripod-Side Crow. You can expect to receive plenty of feedback and 1:1 adjustments to help you. We’ll wrap it up with some stretching and a well-deserved Savasana.

Transform your relationship with fear and self-doubt, build better balance and gain the freedom to flow into arm balance postures and inversions in your daily practice. You just might surprise yourself!

Julia Voellmecke

Julia;s yoga journey began in Germany while she was pregnant with her first son. She loved the way Yoga strengthened her physical and mental health and how Yoga prepared her for the new chapter in her life. In the summer of 2022, Julia moved to the Outer Banks from Germany with her husband and two sons. She completed her 220-hour Yoga Teacher Training at the Amalam School of Yoga at Outer Banks Yoga with Anne Howard. Immersed in yoga philosophy, breathwork and the asanas, Julia cultivated a strong yoga practice, feeling empowered both on and off the mat. With a taste for arm balances, Julia made it her goal to unlock the fundamentals of these elusive postures. In September 2024, she discovered the Yogi Flight School and enrolled in their 100-hour continuing education course. Through the Yogi Flight Method, Julia learned what it takes to fly and experienced empowering breakthroughs in her own arm balance practice. The Yogi Flight Method is a well established program that strategically prepares (any) body to fly and Julia is now trained and inspired to help students fly with confidence and believe in themselves both on and off their mats.
